Mazda-based iA sold as Scion, will switch to Toyota

In more than 15 years of writing about cars, I’ve never had a twist as strange as this week’s test drive.

Here I am, evaluating a car that doesn’t exist from a brand that’s about to disappear.

The car that doesn’t exist is the Mazda2 sedan, which isn’t available in America despite being a spectacularly fun and solid vehicle for a bargain price in other parts of the globe…

You Can Now Make Your Toyota Lease Payments by Driving for Uber

(Adam Berry/Getty Images)

Lease a Toyota and drive for Uber? Through a new partnership between the two companies, you can pay Toyota Financial Services through your earnings as an Uber driver.

The companies have new offerings that allow Toyota consumers to lease their vehicles and then cover their monthly payments through their earnings as Uber drivers.

Uber has entered into partnerships with a variety of automakers. It offers a “sign up to drive” financing program that allows participants…

Review: 2016 Toyota RAV4 hybrid offers best of 2 worlds

2016_Toyota_RAV4_Hybrid_XLE_16_76C99F90DB3FC751384BAD5CF4F84E19069498B4

Toyota is about to be richly rewarded for what seems, in retrospect, to be a corporate no-brainer: combining its expertise in hybrid drivetrains with buyers’ insatiable appetite for small crossover SUVs.

The ??? 2016 Toyota RAV4 Limited AWD hybrid fills the gap Ford created when it bewilderingly stopped building the popular hybrid version of its popular Escape compact SUV a few years ago.

It combines the features people love most about SUVs — all-wheel drive and a…

Toyota tallies 9 millionth hybrid sale

Total sales of Toyota hybrid vehicles have topped 9 million units, the Japanese automaker announced on Friday.

According to Toyota, it sold its 9 millionth hybrid sometime during the end of April. As of April 30th, Toyota's global hybrid sales stood at 9.014 million units.

Although that sales figure is impressive on its own, Toyota's sales pace of hybridized vehicles is even more staggering. It took Toyota a decade to sell its…

With Hydrogen, Toyota Aims To Reclaim The Green Image Stolen By Tesla

At a swanky Tokyo hotel in 1997, as birds flitted across the sky on giant video screens, Toyota Motor introduced the Prius to the world. It wasn’t exactly sexy: a funny-looking compact sedan with itty-bitty wheels and a sloping nose. But under the hood was something new: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor, fed by a 274-volt battery stuffed under the rear seats.

As new car introductions go, this one…

Artificial intelligence framework now powers Toyota websites

Artificial intelligence framework now powers Toyota websites

An innovation in artificial intelligence that was described in a 2001 paper by a UCLA computer science professor has found a somewhat unexpected application: helping car buyers customize their vehicles online.

The websites for Toyota and its Lexus division both offer shoppers the opportunity to tailor their vehicle from among a range of models, colors and accessories. The software that powers the sites, called a "product configurator," is based on a logical form of artificial…

Toyota confirms FJ Cruiser production ends this August

Toyota says it will end production of the retro-inspired FJ Cruiser this August for the handful of markets that still get the two-door SUV.

The FJ Cruiser was first introduced at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show as an off-roader inspired by the brand's cult classic FJ40 Land Cruiser.

Toyota pulled the FJ Cruiser from North American dealerships a couple of years ago, but sales have continued in Japan, China, Australia, and the Middle East…
