Although hybrid vehicle sales have dropped in the last several months due to lower gas prices, the Toyota Prius continues to dominate the hybrid vehicle segment.  27,038 hybrid cars were sold in the U.S. in February.  Of those sales, 64% were from Toyota Motor Corporation...and the Prius accounted for nearly all of those sales.  Although many believe the Prius to be the "oldest" modern hybrid, it continues to block the success of its rivals.

In February, the Prius liftback had sales of 7,080 which represented over 26% of the entire hybrid market.  The second-best selling hybrid was the Prius C at $2,701 with over 10% of the market.  The Prius V was the fifth best seller at $1,850 or 7% of the total hybrid cars sold.

Every major car manufacturer has at least one hybrid model, they they can't chip away at Toyota's market share.  True be told, the market for hybrids outside of Toyota is terrible and Toyota's success makes it appear even worse.  Ford is the only manufacturer beyond Toyota that has modest hybrid sales.  It sold $2,416 Fusion Hybrids in February.  Even with a big marketing push last month, Honda, Buick, Kia and Subaru each failed to have a model with at least 1,000 units sold.
