
Toyota Motor Corp. will unveil special edition versions of its best-selling Toyota Camry mid-size sedan and its Corolla at the Chicago Auto Show next week.
Automakers in growing numbers are unveiling higher priced fancier special editions of mass market vehicles as a way of generating higher profits. Toyota's Camry, the best selling car for the last 13 years in the United States, will get a special edition for the 2016 model, a year after it got a major design.
Camry sales were up 14.7 percent in January, while Corolla sales were up 20.2 percent.
Ford Motor Co. and Volkswagen AG are among the automakers to introduce high-performance limited edition vehicles.
The 2016 Camry Special Edition will have an "extra dose of both aggressiveness and technology. Based on the youthful Camry SE, the limited production Camry will add sporty interior and exterior features. In addition to features found on the Camry SE" it will have unique 18-inch alloy wheels with machined face contrasted with gloss black painted accents.
Toyota will limit production of the Camry to 12,000 vehicles from August to January 2016.
