Fuel for the 2016 Toyota Mirai is in your drinking water. We're not talking about a disastrous fuel spill-- this hydrogen fuel cell vehicle's fuel comes from the water!
The name gives it all away. Hydrogen. Hydro. Gen. Hydro is from the Greek root for water, and Gen is from the Greek root for creator. So hydrogen means "water-creator."
In fact, when you burn hydrogen in a fuel cell like the Mirai uses, all you get left over is water. No more harmful emissions.
So, while you can make water out of hydrogen and oxygen, you can also get hydrogen from water. It's a process called electrolysis, and it involves running electricity through water to split the molecules apart.
What do you think of this new way of storing electric energy? Looking forward to seeing hydrogen cars pop up in our new inventory, or would you rather stick with the tried-and-true Prius?
