AAA recently released a list of the vehicles it judged best for commuters. AAA said 86% of Americans rely on their cars to get to work each day and the average commute takes 25 minutes each way. So having the right vehicle can have a significant effect on one's quality of life.

For its latest study, AAA's auto Buying experts (who test-drive hundreds of vehicles each year) chose models based on comfort, performance, fuel economy and other factors which can make a trip more pleasant and less costly for commuters.

The Toyota Prius and Prius V were chosen top among Compact Vehicles. The Prius seats five in reasonable comfort and is exceptionally efficient for urban commutes where regenerative braking and the ability to turn the gasoline engine off while the car is stopped enhances fuel efficiency.

The Toyota Highlander was chosen top among Crossover Vehicles. While the vehicle's size takes a minor toll in handling through sharp bends, a reputation for dependability and long life make it a top choice for commuters needing size and passenger capacity.
