If you've been keeping up with the Marion Toyota blog the past few weeks, then you know that some of our favorite cars and drivers have been doing extremely well at speedways all over the country, from Matt Kenseth's Camry winning at the Kansas Speedway to Kyle Busch taking top honors in Fort Worth. Today we'd like to share big news from the automaker's Pro/Celebrity Race, where $5,000 is donated to "Racing for Kids" on behalf of each participant and the winner is given an additional $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.
This year's race was a particularly exciting one, and Les Unger, national motorsports manager with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., gives us a feel for the mood, explaining, "The pace of this race was extremely fast and competitive. There was some exciting action in the field that had the fans out of their seats."1
Amidst all of this excitement, Top Gear USA host Rutledge Wood was the first to cross the finish line. Obviously, being an avid car lover, he chose his vehicle well: a Scion FR-S racer. And while he was the fastest "celebrity" to travel along the track, Adam Carolla was the leader in the "pro" segment. Those who followed last year's race will remember that he took the title then, too.
As we mentioned before, the winner of the celebrity portion got to choose which charity received an additional $5,000, and Wood selected Victory Junction, a camp for children with chronic medical conditions and severe illnesses.
If you're in the Marion or Cape Girardeau areas, don't hesitate to stop by and check out the technology and parts in the vehicles here at Marion Toyota that help propel these drivers to victory.
