Arriving in select markets this month, the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In has already received official pricing (starting at $32,000). But we all know that the real draw to hybrid vehicles isn't the upfront price. It's the savings that the big increase in fuel economy will net you. And that's why drivers around the greater Marion area have been keeping an eye out for an official EPA-estimated fuel economy rating for the Prius Plug-In.
And just in the nick of time, the Environmental Protection Agency has released its official estimates for the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In. The results? First, allow us to explain exactly how the Prius Plug-In is rated, as it is done so differently than other models. Being a plug-in hybrid, this new Prius can run solely on its lithium-ion battery pack for a total of 11 miles when it first powers on. While in this mode, it features a top speed of 62 mph. Going above that speed or traveling greater than its all-electric range will shift it from EV to hybrid mode. The MPGe (Miles Per Gallon Equivalent) rating for the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In when in EV mode is 95 MPGe.
And once it leaves EV mode? The 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In achieves the same remarkable 50 mpg combined rating that the original, third generation Prius liftback boasts.
For now, the Toyota Prius Plug-In is limited to 14 markets, including CA, OR, WA, AZ, ME, MA, VT, NH, RI, CT, NY, NJ, MD, and VA. And for 2013, Toyota plans to launch the Prius Plug-In across the country. Ready to learn more? contact Marion Toyota today.
