Japanese automaker Toyota will release several new redesigns next year, including the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Tundra, as well as revising its Toyota Avalon, Toyota RAV4, and Toyota Highlander. One vehicle that may not be renewed for the United States, however, is the Toyota Matrix.

Head of Toyota Division, Bill Fay, explains that though the company's rival, Honda, is building a subcompact crossover in the near future, Toyota doesn't have plans to add a new small crossover to its lineup. He states, "If we don't have the Matrix, it won't be the end of the world. . . .The RAV is as small as we want to get. I am confident with where Toyota is with that. It meets all or most of our customer needs in that segment. We're fine."1

With less Toyota models, however, will come the arrival of some new Scion vehicles. As Fay explains, though Scion sales were up 51 percent this year and will likely total around 75,000 units, "In the near term, I'd like to see more like 100,000," he says,  "There needs to be a certain volume to keep everyone's attention. . . Of course, our dealers would love to see Scion at 200 or 300,000, and we continue to talk to them about Scion being about more than just volume."2
