Le Mans is embracing a new wave of hybrid racers in its 24 hours endurance race, and Marion Toyota, serving the greater Marion, IL area, could not be more thrilled! We say this because it's this recent move that has sparked the return of Toyota to the legendary race.
Previously, Toyota had entered into the race here and there, never really claiming a true victory. In fact, the only Japanese automaker to ever claim a victory at the race was a competitor who did so with their iconic rotary engine. Toyota, however, is the king of the hybrid, and we can't wait to see what kind of vehicle they enter into the race!
"Toyota Motor Corporation has entered Le Mans before, but by using our hybrid technology this time will be a completely new challenge," says Tadashi Yamashina, Toyota Motorsport Chairman. "We want to write a new page in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours, as well as in the FIA World Endurance Championship, through our use of hybrid technology."1
Of course, there are a slew of other automakers out there who are also testing out various racing hybrids. And, why wouldn't they? Everyone wants to produce the first hybrid racer to win at Le Mans, and we can't blame them. Doing so, would after all, be a huge leap in ushering in a new age of sustainable racing
