It seems like ages since Toyota announced that they would be expanding the Prius from being just one model to a lineup of fuel efficient vehicles. Among others, one of the most anticipated models in the upcoming Prius lineup has got to be the Prius v. However, after that announcement Toyota left us high and dry for details. Until now that is.

While it is only fitting that the 2012 Toyota Prius v seats five people, the v really stands for versatility. Thanks to its 60/40 split rear bench and fold-flat passenger seat, the Prius v is able to offer drivers and passengers a total of four different seating configurations. Versatile indeed.

While passengers are sure to love the extra seating room, everyone will love the amount of cargo space that the vehicle offers. It may seem a little hard to believe, but the Prius v is able to offer drivers a total of 34 cubic feet of storage space, once more adding to its versatile nature. It can fit everything from groceries to camping equipment and sporting gear. According to Bob Carter, Toyota Division Group Vice President and General Manager, the Prius v offers "more cargo space than 80% of small SUVs."1

But, perhaps the most comforting feature of the 2012 Prius v is are the materials used to make its versatile seats. The vehicle will feature leather-inspired, stain-resistant upholstery that brings with it, a distinct fashionable edge that is usually exclusive to luxury cars.

In the end, however, we all know what really trumps all else with any Prius model: fuel economy. And, this is one area where the Toyota Prius v does not fall flat. It will be powered by a rear-wheel-drive system, equipped with a 1.8-liter,98-hp,4-cylinder engine. This will result in a fuel economy of approximately 5.35L/100km (1.41gal/62mi) on the highway and 5.88L/100km (1.55gal/62mi) in the city.
