Above are two examples of how figures might be presented to a customer when buying a vehicle. Although the difference that you pay is the same, buying a car the traditional way can be very confusing for the customer.  The dealer never fully discloses how much of the trade allowance is their discount, and how much they are actually paying for the trade.  So the customer never really knows if they are getting a good deal on either one.
