Toyota Extends the Camry Effect to Include Two-Car Sweepstakes

Just when you thought we were finished talking about the Toyota Camry Effect campaign, here we are at it again. And, for good reason; Toyota has added a sweepstakes to its integrated marketing campaign. The prize for this sweepstake is a 2012 Toyota Camry for both the winner and a friend of his/her choice. What a great way to end one of the most fun social advertising campaigns ever seen!

If you haven't heard about the Toyota Camry Effect, you should know it involves Toyota Camry owners sharing their memories and experiences- whether it be in a 1982 Camry or a 2012 Camry. There are currently over 7 million Camry drivers in the U.S., and this campaign gives them a chance to interact and tell their stories online. Now, the big news surrounding the campaign involves Toyota's collaboration with Shazam- a commercial Smart-Phone based music identification service.

Dave Nordstrom, Vice President of Digital Marketing for Toyota USA explains, "The Camry Effect is one of the most ambitious social media campaigns we've ever implemented. Partnering with Shazam allows us to increase awareness of this effort on the national stage and give one lucky winner the opportunity to positively affect a friend and start writing his or her own Camry story."1

The newest part of the campaign urges drivers to watch the Toyota "Connections" set of commercials, as seen here (http://www.toyota.com/camryeffect/#!/videos/), which takes viewers on a journey with real Camry owners. Toyota explains the process in a press release, stating, "'Connections'" allows for daily sweepstakes entry by one of two methods: by viewing the spot online and using Shazam with the ad when prompted or by filling out an entry form online. The sweepstakes will culminate with a winner notified on the night of Feb. 5, and a public announcement soon following. Participants can enter for a chance to win once a day leading up to the debut of the broadcast commercial, as well as enter again by using Shazam or entering online when the commercial airs live on Sunday."2
